A new Chick-fil-A opened in Miami on June 2, sort of. But don’t expect to swing by for a bite.
The new “ghost kitchen” in the Wynwood community, in partnership with the CloudKitchens network, is the chain’s first in Florida and the sixth in the country. It’s designed to exclusively fulfill delivery orders, mostly through third-party delivery services.
The new Miami kitchen will be run by a current Chick-fil-A owner-operator and Miami native, Thomas Overby.
“We know how important fast and reliable delivery is to Wynwood, and we want to meet the community where they are while keeping our signature hospitality,” Overby said in a release. “Being born and raised in Miami, serving this community is very special to me.
“Our new delivery kitchen location gives us the opportunity to serve the Wynwood community in a way that works best for them and gives me the privilege to deepen my connection with my hometown.”
Where is the Chick-fil-A Wynwood Delivery?
The kitchen is at 1900 NE Miami Court.
What can I get from the Chick-fil-A Wynwood Delivery?
The Chick-fil-A Wynwood Delivery will deliver core menu items Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to midnight, offering third-party delivery.
National Restaurant News reported that the breakfast menu will be smaller than at a traditional Chick-fil-A, but it will serve Chick-N-Minis all day long.
What are ghost kitchens?
Ghost kitchens, also known as dark kitchens or cloud kitchens, are restaurant kitchens set up specifically to produce food sold only through food delivery apps such as UberEats and GrubHub. No sit-down service is available.
Ghost kitchens saw a huge upswing during the COVID-19 pandemic, when meal delivery took off, and many restaurants had to pivot quickly to delivery and takeout.
In many cases, ghost kitchens are set up in existing restaurants or kitchen-only spaces to make food branded for a different chain. The existing restaurants get a cut, the other brands keep their name out there, and revenues kept flowing.
One famous example is MrBeast Burger. Popular YouTuber James Donaldson, also known as MrBeast, launched his ghost kitchen brand MrBeast Burger in December, 2020, with 300 locations opening at the same time. His food, a selection of burgers and sides, was made in the kitchens of Buca di Beppo, Bettucini’s, and Bravo! Italian Kitchen locations, and spread to other restaurant chains that wanted an additional revenue stream.
