Buccaneers Super Bowl champion retires after 13 year career in NFL

Ndamukong Suh was a mythical beast in the game of college football before he entered the NFL. From there, he became the same type of monster for each team he lined up for in the NFL.

13-year veteran Ndamukong Suh closed the book on his football life over the weekend when he announced on social media that he was retiring from the NFL. Suh, who has not played in the NFL since 2022, explained his reasoning for stepping away in a heartfelt way as he cited the passing of his dad as being a major component.

“He wasn’t just a dad. He was my idol, my coach, and my anchor. He taught me what it meant to be disciplined, focused, and relentless in everything I do. Every snap I took in football carried his fingerprint. Every time I lined up across from someone, I could hear his voice pushing me, reminding me that I wasn’t just representing myself. I was representing him, my family, my name,” Suh said. “Before he passed, he gave me one final piece of advice, ‘It’s time to let football go. You’ve done everything you set out to do. Now it’s time for the next chapter.’ That conversation stayed with me. So today, one year later, I’m honoring that wish. I’m officially retiring from the NFL.”

Coming out of Nebraska, Suh was drafted second overall to the Detroit Lions in the 2010 NFL Draft. He made an immediate impact, being named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, and earning more awards over time. He would be selected to five Pro Bowls, three All-Pro teams, and be a part of the Bucs Super Bowl LV championship team.

Suh will be eligible for consideration for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2028.
