The wait is nearly over — two new routes from Breeze Airlines will take flight at the Bobby Bowden Tallahassee International Airport starting on July 2.
The Utah-based, low-fare carrier announced its plans to provide direct flights three days a week to Fort Lauderdale and Raleigh, N.C. The 137-passenger planes will be what airline officials describe as the “Goldilocks-size” for Tallahassee’s market.
When asked what’s been the response for the new routes, Breeze Airlines Communication Specialist Ryne Williams said the company was “really pleased with the performance of both routes, and are excited to see how they continue to grow following the launch of service.”
“We are excited to begin service from Tallahassee to Fort Lauderdale and Raleigh-Durham on July 2,” said Williams, in an email to the Tallahassee Democrat. “With Breeze’s high-value, low-cost model, the community will love the added convenience and affordability with nonstop service to 2 previously unserved destinations.”
Breeze Airways, founded in 2021, is considered the fastest-growing airlines in the country for the last five years.
In February, the airline announced plans to provide new service out of Florida’s capital and offered a $39 No Flex Fare promotion to Tallahassee’s airport to Fort Lauderdale and Raleigh-Durham’s airports (the deal ended March 2).
The destinations are intended to attract passengers interested in flying to South Florida, including Tallahassee’s transient college student population. Breeze Airways already operates in several Florida-based airports, including Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville.
For Breeze Airways, the city of Tallahassee is rolling out a $3-million incentive package for its new routes at Tallahassee’s airport, according to TLH Airport Director David Pollard, in a previous article.
The airport has struggled for years to attract and retain carriers, amid constant complaints about ticket fares and limited destinations from budget-concious travelers who opt to fly out of airports hours away.
Pollard and Tallahassee City Manager Reese Goad did not provide comment for this article when contacted regarding the new flight debut.
