Blue-chip FSU running back target commits to ACC rival

The FSU Seminoles battled for four-star running back Gary Walker, but they were unable to land him. He committed to the Clemson Tigers on Tuesday, announcing the news on social media.

He is from Fairburn, Georgia, and was one of Kam Martin’s top running back targets in the 2027 recruiting cycle. The 6-foot, 200-pounder was also considering the Stanford Cardinal, Virginia Tech Hokies, and Penn State Nittany Lions.

Walker has been an FSU target since October of 2025, when they issued him a scholarship offer. While they hosted him on two visits this year, they were unable to beat out the Tigers, who did not extend him a scholarship offer until March 7. While he has an official visit scheduled to FSU, Clemson does not allow its commits to visit other programs.

Walker is ranked as the No. 145 overall player and No. 7 running back in the 247Sports composite. He is also the No. 14 player from Georgia.

He had a breakout junior season at Creekside High School, helping lead them to a state championship. He finished the year with 178 carries for 1,669 yards and 20 touchdowns in 14 games. He averaged 9.4 yards per carry and 119.2 yards per game.

Missing out on Walker is a blow for FSU, which has seen several of its top targets commit elsewhere recently. In addition to Walker, they have missed on Ty Keys (Miami) and Brayden Tyson (South Carolina). They still have several targets available, most notably Jayden Miles and Marquis Fennell, but they need to make sure they land one of them as they are starting to run out of options at the top of their board.
