As America approaches its 250th anniversary, we are reminded that the strength of our nation has always depended on the participation of its citizens. For 250 years, generations of Americans have defended and expanded the right to vote, recognizing that elections are not just civic duties, but opportunities to shape the future of our country, state, and local community.
That is why preparing to vote matters. Now is the time to verify your voter registration status, confirm that your address and party affiliation are current, and make a plan to vote whether it is casting your ballot by mail, during early voting, or on Election Day.
2026 Primary Election
The 2026 Primary Election gives voters the opportunity to vote for federal, state, and local representatives within their respective political parties. If opposed within their parties, voters will be able to vote for United States senators, representatives in Congress, governor, state Cabinet members, state senators, state representatives, and county commissioners. Voters will also vote for nonpartisan seats including school board, judges, and local referendum questions depending on their district.
Florida is a closed primary state, meaning voters registered with a political party may only vote for candidates within their own party in partisan contests. However, all voters can participate in nonpartisan races. The winning candidates of the Primary Election, who see opposition from another party, will then move on to the General Election in November.
