Texas A&M’s 2026 season will once again be defined by the play of quarterback Marcel Reed, who is entering his second full starting season under center, and will now work with new OC and former wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins, while first-year QB coach Joey Lynch already shares a long history with the Tennessee native.
After outright earning the starting job midway through the 2024 season, Reed entered the 2025 campaign after a full offseason as the starter, and with the help of star transfer wide receivers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver, the redshirt sophomore threw for a career-high 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, making significant strides as a pocket passer.
However, back-to-back losses to Texas and Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff included four total turnovers in both losses, placing more pressure on Marcel Reed to enter the offseason with a clear goal of adding healthy muscle to his frame and continuing to work on his accuracy, ball placement, and, most importantly, decision making when the game is on the line.
Still, plenty of examples from the 2025 season, especially the Aggies’ memorable road win over Notre Dame and defeating Arkansas in Fayetteville, where Reed took full control of the offense, making accurate throws and avoiding turnovers, helping lead the Aggies to their first 11-0 start since the 1993 season.
For the second straight year, Reed will once again participate in the annual Manning Passing Academy alongside several notable SEC signal callers, led by star Texas QB and Academy namesake Arch Manning. This is just another opportunity for Marcel Reed to continue making progress in his development before embarking on the most important season of his football career. The Manning Passing Academy will take place from June 25 to June 28.
