Allegiant airlines adds 6 new Florida routes, some starting at $49. Where, when

Ultra-low-cost airline Allegiant is expanding its already large Florida presence with six new routes, and three of them fly out of a brand-new destination for the company: Fort Myers.

The new routes run between Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) and Allentown, Pennsylvania, Appleton, Wisconsin, and Des Moines, Iowa, with initial one-way rates starting at $69, the Las Vegas-based company announced July 28.

Allegiant is also offering new routes between Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) and Toledo, Ohio; between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) and New Orleans, Louisiana.

All the new routes begin in November, the airline said. Tickets are now available at Allegiant.com.

“This expansion reflects our commitment to connecting underserved communities with affordable, convenient travel options,” said Drew Wells, Allegiant’s chief commercial officer. “By adding Fort Myers and increasing service to multiple beach cities, we’re providing travelers nonstop access to sunny destinations, meaning they spend less time at the airport and more time on vacation.”

More new Allegiant routes are starting this summer and fall, with a flight from Fort Lauderdale to South Bend, Indiana, beginning August 29 and another between Key West and Knoxville, Tennessee starting Oct. 3.

Allegiant offers a network of only nonstop, point-to-point flights and operates nearly half of its total capacity in Florida.

The ultra low-cost airline launched eight new routes from Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, seven flights to St. Pete-Clearwater and flights to Orlando-Sanford in November 2024, among others, as part of a major national expansion. Allegiant also added a Punta Gorda/Fort Myers to Chattanooga, Tennessee route in February, and another Sarasota flight, this one to Lexington, Kentucky, in April.

What are Allegiant’s new flights in Florida? When do they start?

How much are Allegiant tickets?

Allegiant Air tends to focus on serving leisure traffic from small and medium-sized cities which it considers to be underserved, using an ultra low-cost business model. The base fares are low, but there are add-on fees for services such as carry-on baggage and printed boarding passes and there is no WiFi or onboard entertainment.

More airlines making changes

It’s been a big year for airlines, and many of them have been making changes to their services and fare lineups.
