An Acreage man faces a first-degree murder charge after investigators say he shot four people on Coconut Boulevard, killing one.
Palm Beach County deputies booked Thomas Faferko-Schmedes, 29, into the Palm Beach County Jail on June 24. Authorities have not released the names of the victims or suggested a motive.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies arrived at shortly before 5 p.m. to the 4600 block of Coconut Boulevard on June 23 and found one man shot inside a home.
Two others, a man and a woman, tried to flee in a car but crashed a short distance away. A fourth victim, a woman, escaped on foot along Coconut, where a nearby resident helped her.
All four went to a hospital. One man later died. Two victims, a man and a woman, remained in serious condition Wednesday morning. The fourth victim, a woman, was in stable condition.
The shooting came 15 months after deputies arrested Faferko-Schmedes at a Coconut Boulevard address in April 2025, when they found he was growing marijuana in his bedroom.
According to his 2025 arrest report, he threatened to kill family members inside the home and pointed a rifle at deputies, prompting a SWAT response. His grandfather and relatives told investigators separately that they knew Faferko-Schmedes smoked marijuana but did not know he grew it.
They said he kept his bedroom door closed and they avoided him because he was, in their words, “crazy.” Faferko-Schmedes surrendered after an hours-long standoff involving an eagle unit, a drone unit and a bomb squad.
He later pleaded guilty in February 2026 to a reduced charge of misdemeanor marijuana possession. A judge withheld adjudication, meaning he was not formally convicted.
The investigation into the June 23 shooting remains open.
