As SpaceX launches increase, third cargo crane arrives in Port Canaveral

It’s been a busy year on the Space Coast and with multiple rocket launches every week, Port Canaveral is adding a third mobile harbor crane to support Port Canaveral cargo and rocket boosters coming in from the ocean on landing platforms.

On Aug. 4, workers surrounded the new crane, which sat on a blue barge labeled BBC Rushmore.

What to know: SpaceX to launch another Amazon Kuiper mission from Cape Canaveral in Florida

Amazon’s Kuiper internet constellation will continue to grow thanks to yet another launch — again on a SpaceX rocket.

The mission is known as KF-02 (Kuiper Falcon 2) and is set to liftoff no earlier than 10:01 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. SpaceX has a 27-minute window to make the launch.

Signed by the current Acting Administrator Sean Duffy, NASA Headquarters released a plan that calls for creating a new position, the Fission Surface Power Program Executive, who would oversee this effort, working to award contracts within the next eight months to up to two industry providers to push forward this effort.

SpaceX postpones Amazon Project Kuiper launch try again; crews target Saturday morning liftoff

On the heels of a Thursday scrub, SpaceX again postponed a Friday morning attempt to launch a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on an Amazon Project Kuiper mission.

So now, SpaceX will try again Saturday morning. Target launch time is 9 a.m. The 45-minute launch window will extend until 9:45 a.m.

Astronaut Butch Wilmore’s venture to space aboard the ill-fated Boeing Starliner spacecraft appears to be his last — at least with NASA.

NASA has announced that Wilmore is retiring from the U.S. space agency a little more than a year since he and astronaut Suni Williams set out for the International Space Station for what was meant to be a brief orbital stay. Selected for the Starliner’s first crewed test flight, Wilmore and Williams were thrust into the worldwide spotlight after the troubled mission stretched on for months due to issues with the spacecraft.

ULA Vulcan to launch USSF-106 national security mission Tuesday from Cape Canaveral, Florida

United Launch Alliance officials are prepping a Vulcan rocket to send up a pair of Space Force national security satellites on one of the company’s longest-ever launches — lasting more than seven hours and extending more than 22,000 miles above Earth to complete deployment.
