One Section V Class B2 softball championship.
Avon and Wellsville will play the second game in a Section V high school softball championship doubleheader on Friday, May 29. Avon senior Jessie Crye and Wellsville junior Kennedy Perry, two of the area’s top pitchers, will battle in a rematch of last year’s Class B final.
Crye will play next season at Florida Gulf Coast University. Perry is committed to Boston University.
Avon posted two upset wins to reach this year’s Class B2 final, including a 5-1 victory over No. 1 Mynderse in the semifinals after blanking No. 4 Sodus, 8-0, in the quarters. Wellsville raced past No. 7 East Rochester, 22-0, in the quarterfinals before downing No. 6 LeRoy, 8-1, in the semis.

Crye strands two in Wellsville fourth
Avon pitcher Jessie Crye struck out the first 10 batters she faced before two runners reached on a dropped third strike and fielder’s choice. Crye struck out Wellsville’s next two hitters, however, to end the threat.
Avon leads, 1-0, after four innings. Crye owns 13 strikeouts.
Avon scores first
Avon plated the game’s first run in the top of the third inning when Payton Rice scored on a groundout by Rylie Miller. Rice reached on a bunt single before moving to second on a Jessie Crye single, and then to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kyleigh DeRider.
Avon leads, 1-0, after 2.5 innings.
Avon, Wellsville scoreless through two innings
Avon left the bases loaded in the top of the second inning. Wellsville pitcher Kennedy Perry logged back-to-back strikeouts to erase the threat.
The Class B2 final is scoreless after two innings.

Avon and Wellsville are set for a 7:30 p.m. first pitch at Gates Chili High School.
Where is the Avon vs. Wellsville Section V softball championship game?
Gates Chili High School, located at 1 Spartan Way, will host the Section V Class B2 final.
Wayland-Cohocton and Waterloo will meet in the B1 final beforehand. Gates Chili will then host Section V softball finals for Class AA1, AA2, A and AAA on Saturday, May 30.
