3 positions for Jaguars to target at NFL trade deadline

If the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to make an additional move or two at the trade deadline, what positions could they target?

A few recent reports suggest that the Jaguars aren’t done making moves.

At 4-3 on the season, the Jaguars are right in the thick of the AFC playoff race as the seventh seed entering their Week 8 bye.

More than anything, making a strong playoff push during the second half of the season begins with the Jaguars fixing the repeated self-inflicted mistakes that continue to plague them.

However, an outside addition at one of these position groups could be beneficial as well.

Pass rush reinforcements

Specifically at defensive tackle, some added pass rush juice could go a long way for the Jaguars. As a collective group, the Jaguars rank 24th in ESPN’s pass block win rate metric, and they are 31st in sacks. As good as the Jaguars’ defense has been this season, more disruption up front could help take this unit to another level.

Tight end

I wouldn’t say tight end is a pressing need, but perhaps the Jaguars would like some additional help while they are without Brenton Strange. Quintin Morris’ injury has also left Jacksonville a bit thin at this position.

The Jaguars are currently leaning heavily on Hunter Long, who provides more of a pass game presence, and Johnny Mundt, who has taken on more run-blocking duties. The two have combined for 116 yards this season.

Safety

Eric Murray has been working through a neck injury and exited Sunday’s game. Andrew Wingard’s play has been up and down this season, and this is a defense under Anthony Campanile that utilizes three safety looks often, leaving Antonio Johnson and Day 3 rookie Rayuan Lane as depth at this position.
