Zion Johnson contract projection: Will Chargers re-sign free agent?

With Chargers guard Zion Johnson set to hit unrestricted free agency this offseason, what could his next contract look like?

Spotrac projects Johnson landing a three-year deal worth around $33.8 million, with an average annual value of about $11.26 million.

After the Chargers declined his fifth-year option, Johnson came on strong in 2025, especially towards the back end of the season. He logged over 1,000 snaps with career-best marks in pressures allowed (26) and sacks allowed (3). Johnson was second among interior offensive linemen in ESPN’s run block win rate.

Johnson will be one of the better free agent guards available, and he should draw strong interest from other teams if he tests the market.

With the Chargers’ ample cap space, re-signing Johnson is very possible. The 26-year-old Johnson is still young, coming off his best season as a pro, and is a great scheme fit for Mike McDaniel’s offense, given his athletic traits.

If Johnson leaves to sign with another team, Los Angeles might have three interior offensive line spots to fill, with center Bradley Bozeman and right guard Mekhi Becton being potential cut candidates.
