Glowing Wild unveils new dinosaur, African exhibits at Turtle Bay park

Turtle Bay Exploration Park is going bright at night, and it has nothing to do with its Redding Garden of Lights, the popular holiday attraction that’s dazzled residents and visitors alike.

Turtle Bay expected to flip on the switch at McConnell Arboretum and Botanical Gardens for its third annual Glowing Wild Lantern Festival on Friday, May 1.

The outdoor walk-through exhibit features illuminated lanterns in animal and plant shapes positioned throughout the park near the Sundial Bridge in Redding.

Lanterns are “inspired by diverse plant and animal species from around the world,” Turtle Bay Exploration Park spokesperson Brady Kennedy said.

New exhibits at Glowing Wild include dinosaurs and ancient Egypt

Park guests will see new collections of dinosaur lanterns, African savannah animals and ancient Egyptian-themed lanterns, she said.

Guests will find past favorites, too, including the Glowing Swings interactive exhibit and Turtle Express train rides. The arboretum’s food court will sell Mosaic Restaurant wood-fired pizza, orange chicken, mochi ice cream, and craft cocktails, Kennedy said.

The park also will hold concerts on a community stage some nights.

Tickets online cost $20-$25 for adults, $15 for children and $10-$15 for members. The park also sells packages and private lounge reservations.

Glowing Wild is open from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays in May and then daily through June 28. It’s also open on Memorial Day, May 25.
