Woman stabs man, sets fire to home in Apple Valley

A woman is accusing of stabbing a man before setting fire to a home and barricading herself inside in Apple Valley on Friday morning.

The incident was first reported about 8:50 a.m. April 24 at a home in the 15900 block of Washoan Road, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department logs show.

Deputies responded to the home due to a report of an “unknown problem,” sheriff’s department spokeswoman Gloria Orejel said.

“When they arrived, they learned a male adult had been stabbed,” she said. “The victim was able to exit the home and suspect remained in the home and set the home on fire.”

The condition of the stabbing victim was not clear.

Deputies evacuated nearby homes as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames from behind cover of law enforcement.

A Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Team, or SWAT team, responded after possible gunshots were heard coming from inside the burning home, Orejel said.

As of 10:40 a.m., firefighters maintained a defensive stance against the fire as the home was “fully involved” with flames, according to radio broadcasts from the scene. The suspect was still believed to be holed up inside.

No further details were available as the situation continued evolving Friday morning.
