Ventura police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old woman early July 19.
Officers with the Ventura Police Department responded to a shooting in the 700 block of Olive Street around 3:24 a.m., according to Cmdr. Trenner Marchetti.
Officers found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds near Olive and Ramona streets. The victim, a Ventura resident, was transported to the hospital where she died from her injuries, Marchetti said.
Officers used a drone from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office during their response, he said. Ventura police also had its BearCat security vehicle on scene.
Ventura detectives continued their investigation at the scene throughout the morning. Investigators later obtained a search warrant and arrested Gregory Lide, 52, on suspicion of felony murder at the Olive Street home, Marchetti said shortly after 6:30 p.m.
The police commander would not say what the relationship was between Lide and the victim or discuss any motive.
Lide was booked into Ventura County jail and was being held on $500,000 bail, according to jail records. He is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court July 21.
The shooting appeared to be Ventura’s first homicide of 2026.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Sgt. Fabian Gutierrez of the major crimes unit at 805-339-4428.
