The 2026/27 Tulare County Assessment Roll has been completed, Assessor/Clerk-Recorder Tara Freitas announced on July 1.
The total net taxable value of property in the county was assessed at $55.08 billion, an increase of 4.02%, or about $2.13 billion, over last year. The assessment roll is the total taxable value of all locally assessed real, business and personal property as of Jan. 1, 2026.
“Our office remains focused on serving the public by providing accurate property assessments, answering questions, and helping property owners understand the assessment process,” Freitas said.
What spurred the increase?
Commercial development was a major factor in this year’s increase, with significant new construction in Visalia, Tulare, and other parts of the county.
Each year, the certified assessment roll is submitted to the Tulare County Auditor-Controller’s Office to serve as the basis for the county’s annual property tax bills.
“Thanks to Prop. 13, most property owners will see no more than a 2% increase in their taxable value, helping maintain predictability and stability in annual property tax bills,” Freitas said.
Property tax revenue funds vital services throughout the county, including law enforcement, fire protection, public health, education and infrastructure.
