After the Philadelphia 76ers won the LeBron James race, the Warriors pivoted to another forward target, former top-five pick Mario Hezonja. Although Golden State could have offered Hezonja a considerable amount of playing time with the injuries to both Moses Moody and Jimmy Butler III, Hezonja ultimately decided to join the Cleveland Cavaliers instead.
While it seemed like another swing and miss from the Warriors front office on the surface, fans became even more angered to find out the terms that Hezonja signed for. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Hezonja signed a one-year, non-guaranteed $2.8 million deal.
With three roster spots open prior to re-signing Gary Payton II, Golden State surely could have afforded to offer Hezonja a fully guaranteed deal. However, it has yet to be revealed whether or not the Croatian forward ever seriously considered the Bay Area as a destination.
