There isn’t a break from the heat in sight for the Coachella Valley.
An extreme heat warning is in place until 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3. The National Weather Service forecast that Sunday, Aug. 2 and Monday, Aug. 3 would have highs of around 115 and lows of around 90. Then it was predicted to cool off only marginally from there.
Lauren Villafane, a National Weather Service meteorologist, said temperatures will lower slightly but stay in the range of about 110 to 113. This is above the seasonal average by 5 to 10 degrees, she added.
“It’s probably not going to cool off enough to where you can actually notice,” Villafane said.
Lowest overnight temperatures will stay in the mid to upper 80s. There will be wind gusts of 30 to 35 mph in the east that are expected to settle down a bit by Wednesday, Villafane said.
During extreme heat warnings, the National Weather Service recommends people avoid outdoor activities and stay inside air-conditioned spaces as much as they can. It suggests that people who can’t avoid going outside drink lots of water and take breaks often in the shade.
