It’s been an eventful few days for Draymond Green. The Golden State Warriors’ forward was ejected during the team’s 119-116 win over the Phoenix Suns on Saturday, Dec. 20, and then against the Orlando Magic on Monday, Dec. 21, Green found himself in a heated debate with Steve Kerr. The discussion happened early in the third quarter, with Green leaving the court before later returning to the bench.
The veteran forward didn’t play for the remainder of the game. In fact, he was only on the floor for 3 minutes and 29 seconds during the entire second half. During his postgame news conference, Green admitted that tempers were running high and, because of that, he chose to step away from the situation.
“Temper spilled over and… I just thought it was best that I got out of there,” Green said. “I don’t think there was a situation where it was going to get better. So it was just. best to remove myself, you know. That’s it.”
Fortunately for Golden State, they were able to rally in Green’s absence, winning the second half 62-40. Stephen Curry led the way with 18 points and 4 assists, while Brandin Podziemski (8 points), Moses Moody (9 points) and Quinten Post (8 points) also made their presence felt.
The Warriors have won two straight games and are one game behind the Suns, who sit seventh in the Western Conference. However, they’re four games behind the Houston Rockets, who sit sixth, which is the final guaranteed playoff spot. Fortunately for Steve Kerr’s team, there are roughly three-quarters of the season remaining.
