An 18-year-old man tried to bribe his way out of a firearm-related arrest in Victorville on Saturday, resulting in an additional charge, law enforcement officials said.
The incident unfolded about 12:40 a.m. Aug. 8 after deputies pulled over a Hyundai Sonata at Hook Boulevard, just east of El Evado Road, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials said.
“During the investigation, deputies searched the vehicle and recovered a loaded 9mm Glock 19X handgun equipped with a large-capacity magazine,” according to a sheriff’s department statement.
The driver, identified as 18-year-old Jayceeion Vasser of Victorville, was arrested.
“During the contact, Vasser also attempted to bribe deputies in an effort to avoid arrest,” the statement said.
Vasser was booked on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in public, possession of a high capacity magazine and bribery of an executive officer, county jail records show.
Bail was set at $40,000 pending legal proceedings.
“The Victorville City Gang Impact Team continues to proactively target illegal firearms and individuals who contribute to violent crime, enhancing the safety and quality of life for those who live, work, and visit the City of Victorville,” the statement added.
