USC trolls with social media video following controversial fake punt in Northwestern game

In last Friday’s victory over Northwestern, USC successfully executed a somewhat controversial fake punt. On 4th and 6, the Trojans trotted out third-string quarterback Sam Huard, who had switched from his usual number of seven to 80, the number worn by punter Sam Johnson. Huard threw a dart to wide receiver Tanook Hines for the first down, and USC went on to score a touchdown on the drive.

This week, the team’s social media account decided to have a little fun with a play. In a video, a coffee shop worker calls out, “Order number 80, for Sam!” Both Johnson and Huard arrive wearing No. 80 jerseys and claim the order as their own.

After a moment of confusion, the employee then returns with another order for, “Sam, number seven!” Huard subsequently takes the second order, leaving the original for Johnson.

The video largely received a positive response on social media. Both USC fans and non-USC fans alike could appreciate the creativity and the joke surrounding a memorable play.

The Trojans are back in action on Saturday against Iowa. Let’s see if Lincoln Riley has any more tricks up his sleeve then.
