Shingletown man killed in weekend collision on Highway 44 identified

The Shasta County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday, May 12, identified the man who was killed in a weekend traffic collision east of Redding as Phillip Mathew Detrant, 63, of Shingletown.

The crash happened around 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, on Highway 44 west of Inwood Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash is still under investigation.

Detrant was driving a 2018 Honda Accord east on Highway 44 when he veered across the solid double yellow line into the westbound lane, Investigators said. As he was steering the sedan back toward the eastbound lane of the highway, the vehicle collided with the front of a 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup.

The four women inside the Toyota truck suffered minor to moderate injuries, the CHP said.

Detrant and the four women were wearing seatbelts, investigators said.

Alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the collision, the CHP said.
