Shasta County dad whose baby suffered brain damage going to prison

A Shasta County man, Christopher Hasley, received a 20 years and 4 months prison sentence for abusing and severely injuring his baby, the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office said on Tuesday.

The infant victim suffered severe injuries that left her partially paralyzed, with permanent brain damage, unable to see, hear, or swallow and with periodic seizures.

Hasley, then 36, was arrested on Jan. 23, 2026, two days after a hospital reported to the sheriff’s office a suspected child abuse incident involving an infant.

The hospital’s staff had reported on Jan. 21 that a baby with extensive injuries had been brought to the hospital by their biological parents for treatment. Authorities said medical evaluations revealed numerous injuries, including oral injuries and brain bleeds.

Medical professionals said the infant’s injuries were not consistent with explanations the father gave.

Detectives with the sheriff’s office major crimes unit began investigating, and the injured baby and an additional child were placed into protective custody, the sheriff’s office said.

The baby was taken to a hospital out of the area for advanced care, authorities said.
