One of the most well-known – and hard to score a reservation at – restaurants in Palm Springs has gained a stylish new sibling that’s perfect for grabbing a drink before or after dinner next door.
Beaton’s, an intimate bar and salon offering its own menu of cocktails and snacks, opened next to Bar Cecil on Friday, Jan. 2.

The new spot is a collaboration between owners of several prominent Palm Springs restaurants and resorts including Del Rey, Holiday House and Bar Cecil itself. Del Rey owner John Janulis describes Beaton’s as a “lounge-like environment that complements the existing restaurant.”
What is on the menu at Beaton’s?
Bar Cecil Chef Gabriel Woo has created a new menu of “salon snacks” that are being served at Beaton’s. Those snacks include pigs in a blanket, bar fries, spaghetti Bolognese and roasted duck-filled Bao buns, with others to debut in the future. Also on offer are a selection of favorites from the Bar Cecil menu.
What does the space look like?
Beaton’s matches Bar Cecil with a grand, eye-catching aesthetic of its own. Design elements include red velvet tufted booths, an over-sized gold silk sofa, leopard print carpet, hand-crafted woodwork and a curated collection of vintage black and white celebrity photographs by such well-known photographers as Terry O’Neil and Arthur Elgort.
Beaton’s also has what is described in the release as a “lush, covered garden patio” which offers additional seating.
Where did the Beaton’s name come from?
Beaton’s moniker is another nod to Cecil Beaton, the British photographer and set and costume designer known for his famous celebrity portraits and Oscar- and Tony-winning work on major films and plays.
Cecil served as the source of the name and much of the inspiration for Bar Cecil; the restaurant’s website explains that “Bar Cecil is a love letter to Beaton’s vision of life and art: a celebration of what’s good, of eliminating that which is only pomp, and in the process creating memories through food, drink and hospitality. Bar Cecil is for those who follow the beat to their own drum, horn or whatever inspires them to create, to be individuals, and to embrace diversity.”
When is Beaton’s open?
Beaton’s is open from 5 p.m. to midnight, Wednesday through Sunday.
What is Bar Cecil?
Bar Cecil is a stylish restaurant that opened in Palm Springs’ Plaza Del Sol shopping center just north of where South Palm Canyon Drive curves in South Palm Springs. It serves a menu that mixes American and French influences and has become well-known for its steak frites and half-chicken entrees, half-shell oyster appetizer and caviar-containing $50 martini. The restaurant debuted in 2020 and has become one of the most popular in Palm Springs, with reservations typically snapped up a month in advance.
