Ever since Mark Walter officially purchased a majority stake in the Los Angeles Lakers several months ago, several changes have been made to their front-office personnel. They brought in Andrew Friedman and Farhan Zaidi, who have worked with Walter in the front office of the two-time defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Lon Rosen was also brought in from the Dodgers to be the president of business operations, and former University of Virginia coach Tony Bennett is now a draft advisor for them.
There has been an expectation that more changes could be on the way as the offseason approaches. Sure enough, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Lakers are looking to fill more positions, including two specific ones.
“The Los Angeles Lakers are considering multiple front office staff additions looking ahead to next season, including at least one assistant general manager and another potential high-ranking role, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote.
Dan Woike of The Athletic wrote a few months ago in a report that the Lakers are “expected to model their front office” after the Dodgers, a franchise Walter has owned since 2012. The fact that Walter is now in charge is music to the ears of Lakers fans who have been frustrated by the alleged penny-pinching and substandard roster management the organization has displayed in recent years.
The organization is projected to have approximately $50 million of salary cap space this summer, which will give it a unique opportunity to shape a championship-caliber roster around Luka Doncic.
