The Los Angeles Rams are making Trent McDuffie won’t be a one-year rental for them. After agreeing to acquire the All-Pro cornerback from the Kansas City Chiefs for four draft picks, the Rams have now agreed to a massive contract extension with McDuffie.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, McDuffie will get $124 million for four years, making him the highest-paid corner in NFL history at $31 million per year. He was entering the final year of his rookie contract and was set to make $13.6 million, but he’ll earn a lot more than that in the years to come on this new deal.
His contract includes $100 million guaranteed, as well, a huge commitment by the Rams.
McDuffie, a first-team All-Pro in 2023 and second-team selection in 2024, was always destined to land a lucrative contract from someone, and the Chiefs were unwilling to be the team to pay him. The Rams were more than happy to not only give up draft picks for him, but also lock him up with a long-term deal.
McDuffie was entering the final year of his rookie contract, which was set to pay him $13.6 million the fifth-year option.
