Rams rookie WR making strong impression at training camp

The Los Angeles Rams began training camp this week and have had several players stand out already. Over the course of Sean McVay’s tenure, the team has been able to produce pass catchers from a variety of sources. It appears that has occurred again.

CJ Daniels had a standout career at the University of Miami, helping restore the Hurricanes to National Championship contender status. Following the Hurricanes’ trip to the title game, Daniels was selected by the Rams in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Daniels is now the latest in a string of Day 3 and undrafted wide receivers who have flashed for the Rams. During the McVay era, names like Puka Nacua, Konata Mumpfield, Jordan Whittington, Xavier Smith, Ben Skowronek, Josh Reynolds, and others have carved out roles and careers in Los Angeles after being overlooked prospects. Daniels appears to be on a similar trajectory.

In the same breath, there have been a plethora of players who have flashed in training camp and preseason, while being unable to have an impact during the regular season. Only time will tell what Daniels will become but the void Tutu Atwell left as the No. 3 receiver has yet to be filled.

Sean McVay said Monday that Daniels is a “mature rookie” and someone he’s excited to watch this preseason.

“I’m excited about CJ and he’ll be another guy when you talk about the importance of the preseason, he’ll be a guy I’m looking forward to watching play and obviously in these practice settings as well,” McVay said.

Perhaps this is Daniels’ first step towards establishing himself, but what can’t be questioned is that for another year, the Rams have a promising pass catcher that the entire NFL overlooked.
