Rams could get key defender back from injury in Week 10 after one-game absence

The Los Angeles Rams were left thin at cornerback in Week 9 when they faced the New Orleans Saints. With Ahkello Witherspoon already on injured reserve, they were also without Darious Williams due to a shoulder injury, which he suffered in Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Even with the bye, Williams wasn’t ready to return on Sunday against the Saints, but there’s a chance he’ll be back this week in Santa Clara. Sean McVay shared an update on Williams during the “Coach McVay Show” Monday and said he thinks the veteran corner will be available.

“I think so. We’ll see,” McVay said. “That was kind of always the plan we had in place. That was kind of a target goal but until we get him back out there, see how he’s positively responding to some of the different things that he faced with that little setback against the Jags. We’ll see, but that is the hope and optimism.”

Cobie Durant and Emmanuel Forbes Jr. handled all of the snaps at cornerback in Week 9 with Williams out, though newcomer Roger McCreary was active and played special teams. Williams typically plays between 60 and 75% of the defensive snaps when healthy so he’s been a key player for Los Angeles.

The more depth the Rams can have in the secondary, the better. And Williams’ ability to make plays on the ball as an outside corner brings a lot of value to the defense.
