A 43-year-old man’s shooting death near train tracks in Stockton Thursday, June 4, marked the city’s 10th homicide this year, police said.
Stockton police officers responded at 3:05 p.m. to the 700 Block of West Anderson Street, to the train tracks just north of Anderson Street, for a report of a shooting.
A man, whose identity has not been released, was found at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital and died from his injuries, police said.
Officer Omer Edhah, a Stockton police spokesperson, said the person had been shot at least once in the upper body with a firearm.
Detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, which remains ongoing.
Edhah said the motive of the shooting is still being investigated and there was not releasable suspect information as of Friday.
When asked if the person killed was unhoused, Edhah said the information was still being investigated.
The department said at the same time last year, there were 18 homicides compared to 25 homicides in 2024 during the same time period.
