Oxnard police warn residents after mountain lion sighting

A mountain lion was sighted on March 13 in a neighborhood north of Oxnard airport and is now moving westbound, authorities said.

The Oxnard Police Department posted on social media on a mountain lion being seen in the 800 block of Ebony Drive around 7 p.m. last night.

Oxnard police updated on social media at 4:24 a.m. Sat., March 14 that the mountain lion was no longer in the tree it was originally found in and the current whereabouts were unknown.

Oxnard police has received multiple reports of sightings of the mountain lion and the mountain lion appears to be moving west, said Sgt. Matt Ross.

Residents “need to give the mountain lion space” and not approach the mountain lion by filming it or bothering it in any way, Ross said.

Oxnard police is remotely monitoring the situation and hoping the mountain lion “gets back to nature,” he said.

The mountain lion will not be harmed unless it’s an immediate threat to anyone’s life, he said.

Residents are asked to keep children and pets indoors as a precaution, the post says.
