An alleged DUI driver crashed into a Hesperia home, then tried to grab a deputy’s gun as officials wrestled him into custody on Wednesday, law enforcement officials said.
The crash took place about 7:20 p.m. in the 11700 block of Hesperia Road, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department statement. The occupants of the house were not hurt.
“Arriving deputies observed the driver continue accelerating into the home, causing a small fire,” the statement said.
The driver, as well as a woman riding as a passenger, refused commands to get out of the car, officials said.
“While deputies were pulling [the driver] from the vehicle, [he] grabbed one of the deputies’ firearms,” according to the law enforcement statement. “Deputies subdued Harman and removed the female passenger, who was transported to a hospital for her injuries.”
The driver, identified as 38-year-old Christopher Henry Harman of Victorville, was booked into jail on suspicion of drunken driving, drugged driving, resisting police and attempting to take a police officer’s firearm.
Records show Harman, who is on felony probation stemming from a prior conviction, was being held without bail pending an initial court appearance.
