Coronado will have a chance to earn one of the four UIL playoff berths in District 1-6A. The Thunderbirds have some strong pieces on offense and if the defense can be more consistent, the Thunderbirds could find more wins.

Coronado competes in a district with Franklin, Eastwood, Eastlake, Pebble Hills, Socorro and Montwood.

A look back at the 2025 season

The Thunderbirds were in the playoff hunt until the final week of the regular season, losing a 55-44 matchup vs. Eastlake.

The Thunderbirds improved over the course of the season, defeating Montwood, Socorro and Parkland and giving District 1-6A champ Eastwood and Andress competitive games.

How the offense shapes up

The Thunderbirds have talented wideouts CJ Frescas and Christian Frias helping lead the way. Offensive lineman Evan Harris will help anchor things up front and Sal Duarte could figure in at running back.

How the defense shapes up

The defensive line will be one of the strengths of the defense, with John Baaniak, Derick Kimerson and Malik Thomas helping lead the way.

What Coronado coach Mike Pry says

“We have good skill people returning and our kids put in good work in the offseason,” Pry said. “It’ll be a tough district as always and lots of competitive games.”
