Oak Park man charged for deaths of Newbury Park couple in May collision

A 21-year-old Oak Park man was arrested June 30 in connection with a Newbury Park crash that left two dead, authorities said.

Neil Liam Reb was charged with two counts of felony gross vehicular manslaughter for the May 6 crash at Via Las Brisas and Calle Del Prado that killed Maria and Alejandro Ramirez of Newbury Park, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. Reb also faces a special allegation that the crime is a serious felony, meaning he could face additional time if it’s found true.

Investigators with the Ventura County Sheriff’s East Valley Station said they gathered evidence that showed Reb was headed north on Via Las Brisas in his 2024 Jeep Wrangler, driving in a “reckless manner” before the road intersected with Calle Del Prado.

Sheriff’s investigators said Reb was driving twice the posted speed of 45 mph.

Maria and Alejandro Ramirez, ages 73 and 77, were in a Volkswagen Tiguan headed west on Calle Del Prado and made a left onto Via Las Brisas when the collision happened, according to the sheriff’s office. The couple died in the crash.

Reb was taken to the hospital and later released, according to sheriff’s reports at the time.

He was arrested on June 30 and released on $50,000 bond the same day, jail records show. He is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on July 14.
