North Highlands man killed in Stockton’s 6th homicide of 2026

A North Highlands resident who was shot and killed in Stockton this week has been identified by the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office. 

Derrick Lee Walthall, 43, was identified as the man killed on Tuesday, March 31 on South Commerce and West Main streets in Stockton.

Stockton police said officers responded at 12:35 a.m. to the area on a report of a person shot. Walthall was found suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. 

He was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries. 

Detectives responded to the scene to assist with the investigation, according to police.

Walthall’s death marked the sixth homicide of the year in Stockton.
