The NFL has learned that Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby is applying to enter the supplemental draft following his controversial exit from college football after he was suspended for betting on his team. In a revolving legal situation that saw his suspension be lifted by the legal system, followed by a bombardment of complaints from the teams set to compete against Sorsby, he’s made the decision to enter the NFL by way of July’s supplemental draft.
Sorsby is set to host a pro day and has drawn interest from teams around the league.
Sorsby is expected to have several interested suitors, and that interest proves the Los Angeles Rams were right in selecting Ty Simpson. While I personally disagreed with the decision, it can not be understated that there is a quarterback shortage in the NFL, and the Rams snagging Simpson when they did ensures they have some type of answer in the event that they need to quickly replace Matthew Stafford.
If Sorsby were truly a first-round talent, he would’ve declared for the 2026 NFL Draft. The fact that teams are allegedly willing to part with a pick as high as a second proves that the current quarterback market is inflated, especially due to a lack of quality backups.
Whatever anyone says about the Simpson pick, there is no doubt that the Rams cashed in before the market took a sour turn.
