More of Milwaukee Public Museum’s exhibits are being prepared for their new home this summer and won’t be back on display until 2027.
The Milwaukee Public Museum is moving to the new Nature & Culture Museum of Wisconsin, which is expected to open by June 2027. The new location is at North Sixth Street and West McKinley Avenue.
Some museum exhibits are leaving the old location earlier than others for extra restoration, the museum said on its website June 16.

Other deinstallations are expected to take place after the Milwaukee Public Museum’s last day open on Jan. 3, 2027.
The Milwaukee Public Museum has been in its current building on Wells Street since 1963, but has fallen into disrepair. Museum officials say it would cost Milwaukee County $100 million to repair the current site.
The new Nature & Culture Museum is expected to cost $165 million: $40 million from the state, $45 million from the county, $1 million from other public sources and $165 million in private donations.
