A Thousand Oaks man was arrested for alleged possession of child pornography on April 2.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office investigators received an online tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children database in September, alleging that the man, 67, had possibly communicated with a minor with the intent to commit sexual acts, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
The sheriff’s office provides police services for the city of Thousand Oaks, including the Newbury Park neighborhood where the man resides.
The Internet Crimes Against Children is an initiative with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office that focuses on internet-based child exploitation.
Investigators developed probable cause and arrested the man on Nov. 5 on suspicion of felony contacting a minor with intent to have sex, sheriff’s officials said. He was later released on a $30,000 bond.
The man’s home was searched, and multiple electronics were seized as evidence, the sheriff’s office said.
In March, detectives searched data from the man’s electronics and allegedly found child pornography, officials said. He was arrested on April 2 on suspicion of possession of child pornography.
He was booked into Ventura County jail but was released on a $50,000 bond hours later.
He is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on April 16, jail records show.
The sheriff’s office believes that there could be additional victims and has requested that anyone with information call Detective Robert Thomas at 805-371-8309.
