A man received a prison sentence of 75 years to life this week for the fatal shooting of a father and son in Victorville nearly nine years ago.
David Salazar, 31, of Victorville was convicted in 2024 of the murders of Daniel Flury, 56, and his son, Daniel Flury Jr., 27, both of Victorville, on July 6, 2017, at an apartment in the 15600 block of 10th Street in Victorville, according to San Bernardino County Superior Court records.
He pleaded “no contest” to two counts of murder, and also admitted sentence-enhancing special allegations of personally using a firearm and causing great bodily injury.
Salazar was sentenced Wednesday, May 28, in the Victorville Courthouse.
He was taken into custody the day after the shooting when investigators spotted him leaving a home in Hesperia, officials said at the time. Salazar shot himself in the face as deputies closed in, but survived the wound to stand trial.
The shooting
The deadly shooting took place shortly before 6 p.m. on July 6, 2017. Responding deputies encountered both victims suffering from from gunshot wounds.
Flury Sr. died from his injuries at the scene, while his son was initially hospitalized in critical condition before ultimately succumbing to his wounds. An attempted murder charge was upgraded to a murder charge following Flury Jr.’s death.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives quickly identified Salazar as a suspect in the attack, the agency said in a written statement.

Deputies assigned to a gang task force tracked him down about 3:30 p.m. on July 7, 2017, as he walked away from a home in the area of Live Oak Street and Timberlane Avenue in Hesperia, authorities said at the time.
When confronted, Salazar pulled a semi-automatic pistol from his pocket and shot himself in the face, according to the statement. He was hospitalized while he recovered from the self-inflicted wound.
“Investigators believe the handgun recovered from Salazar is the same handgun used to shot the Flurys,” the statement added.
