LeBron James surpasses one of the NBA's greatest shooters in one category

After being sidelined due to sciatica for the first 14 games of the new NBA season, LeBron James finally made his 2025-26 debut on Tuesday night when the Los Angeles Lakers hosted the Utah Jazz at Crypto.com Arena. In doing so, he set a new league record by playing in his 23rd season.

He mostly took it easy in the first half, but he did manage to hit a pair of 3-pointers. His second trey, which came with 43.6 seconds left in the second quarter, was a consequential one, as it moved him past Hall of Famer Reggie Miller for the sixth-most made 3-pointers in NBA history.

Miller, of course, was considered arguably the best outside shooter in basketball history before Stephen Curry came onto the scene. He played 18 seasons in the league and averaged 18.2 points a game while hitting 39.5% of his 3-point attempts. He was as feared in crunch time as anyone who has ever played the game.

He led his Indiana Pacers to the NBA Finals in 2000, only to lose to a Lakers team that was led by Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant in six games.
