The Phoenix Suns surpassed expectations last season by going 45-37, finishing seventh in the Western Conference and reaching the NBA playoffs. They did so with a scrappy roster that featured All-Star Devin Booker, guards Devin Green, Grayson Allen and Collin Gillespie and, of course, the irritating forward named Dillon Brooks.
This offseason, they have strengthened their roster by trading for forward Miles Bridges, signing sharpshooter Luke Kennard away from the Los Angeles Lakers and drafting promising University of Arizona forward Koa Peat.
The NBA’s full schedule for the upcoming season will be fully released on Thursday, but on Tuesday, a few key matchups were leaked. The Lakers will face the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 21 and LeBron James’ Philadelphia 76ers on Christmas Day, and per Duane Rankin, they will host the Suns on Nov. 15.
James won’t be around anymore for Brooks to get under the skin of, but he still seems to consider the Lakers something of an enemy. He recently implied in a video with Bleacher Report that they will be in trouble if Luka Doncic doesn’t average a ginormous amount of points.
“Lakers are sweet,” Brooks said when asked if the team got better or worse after James left. “They’re so sweet.
“… If Luka don’t average 40 (laughs).”
Brooks just agreed to a three-year extension with Phoenix after averaging a career-high 20.2 points a game last season.
Los Angeles, of course, gave Austin Reaves a four-year, $185 million contract this summer. It has brought in Walker Kessler, Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton and Sandro Mamukelashvili, among others, this offseason and will have a radically different complexion this coming season.
