Lakers jersey history No. 20 — Harry Giles III

Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.

During the Lakers’ 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.

After one season at Duke University, Harry Giles III, a 6-foot-10 power forward/center, was taken by the Portland Trail Blazers with the No. 20 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. After stints with the Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings and Brooklyn Nets, the Lakers signed him to a two-way contract late in the 2023-24 season.

He appeared in seven games with the Lakers and totaled two points, four rebounds and one steal in 19 minutes. Since then, Giles has had stints with the Shanxi Loongs and Jiangsu Dragons of the Chinese Basketball Association.
