The San Francisco 49ers competed in their second preseason game of 2025, and while they beat the Raiders 22-19 on a last-second field goal from kicker Jake Moody, the vibes weren’t too high with three players suffering injuries.
Right guard Dominick Puni and running backs Patrick Taylor and Corey Kiner all left the contest and various points, with none of them returning to the field.
After the game concluded, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan took to the podium and provided updates on the status of all three players. He stated that Puni may have a PCL injury, while Taylor has a dislocated shoulder and Kiner is believed to have a high ankle sprain. All three are expected to miss multiple weeks, according to Shanahan.
Puni, 25, is San Francisco’s starting right guard, and without him, they turned to Nick Zakelj, who hasn’t been great in training camp or the preseason. With Puni and left guard Ben Bartch both down, the 49ers may struggle to stop interior pressure.
Taylor, 27, and Kiner, 23, should be lower on San Francisco’s depth chart, but with Christian McCaffrey sitting out as a precaution and Isaac Guerendo and Jordan James injured, the 49ers may enter their final preseason game with Ke’Shawn Vaughn and Jeff Wilson as their only healthy backs.
San Francisco hasn’t been afraid to make roster moves over the last month, so if they feel they need another interior offensive lineman or running back, they’ll likely snatch up another one quickly. Don’t be surprised if the workout list for Monday is a long one.
