One of the expected breakout players for the USC Trojans this season is defensive end Kameryn Fountain. He enters the season looking to make a name for himself in college football. Fountain saw action in just eight games last year due to injuries, but he still put up 2 sacks, 19 total tackles, and 4.5 tackles for loss in 2024.
That’s solid production for a freshman, but the young Trojan wants to be dominant. Fountain is coming into camp with a different mindset and coaches are taking notice. Ryan Kartje, the Los Angeles Times USC reporter, has also taken notice. He looked at the beginning of what could be a breakout season for Fountain in a recent tweet:

Kartje wrote that “D’Anton Lynn said that USC DE Kameryn Fountain is ‘a completely different person’ this season. He said Fountain was struggling to pick up the scheme last fall when they had to throw him into action. ‘He improved every single day, learned from his mistakes,’ Lynn said.”
With key defensive veterans such as Kamari Ramsey and Eric Gentry controlling the secondary and the linebackers, if Fountain can take that next step and be dominant up front, this Trojan defense can be really scary. With his size and ability mixed with the experience he got as a freshman, Fountain has everything he needs to put together a great season.
