There were 37,994 votes cast this week in the race for the Daily Press High School Athlete of the Week poll.
Hesperia’s Camee Nifo ended with 53.83% of total votes cast by Daily Press readers.
The volleyball star received 20,451 votes, beating out two other high school athletes from across the High Desert.
To earn a spot on the ballot, Nifo is off to a tremendous start to her high school career at Hesperia. The freshman outside hitter tallied 30 kills, 4 aces, 3 blocks, 14 digs and 4 assists in five victories for the Scorpions over the course of the week.
In the voting, Nifo beat Sultana volleyball player Brea Whittemore, who received 36.39% at 13,825 total votes.
The nominees were selected based on performances between Aug. 18 through 23.
Nominations are based on information available to the Daily Press. All high school varsity players from the High Desert can be considered for the ballot.
Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week’s games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
