Grant delivers the walk-off single for AAE against Hesperia Christian | April 17 roundup

Aleena Grant delivered the walk-off RBI single to push the Academy for Academic Excellence softball team past Hesperia Christian 10-9 Friday, April 17, after erasing a late deficit.

Hesperia Christian jumped out to a 4-0 lead and extended it to 7-0 after two innings, but AAE chipped away and tied the game with five runs in the fifth inning to make it 9-9.

In the final at-bat, Grant singled to left field to score Berg for the winning run.

Grant ended 2 for 4 with one RBI, while Berg earned the win in the circle with seven strikeouts. Kelsey Walker and Emily Garcia each went 1 for 4 with two runs.

For Hesperia Christian, Riley Piorkowski went 3 for 4 with one RBI, two runs and one stolen base; Emily Speer went 2 for 3 with two runs and three stolen bases; and Eden Skinner went 1 for 2 with a home run, two walks, two RBIs, two runs and one stolen base.

Oak Hills 13, Sultana 3

At Hesperia, Amaya Sigala recorded her 100th career hit with a home run and finished 3 for 3 with two RBIs.

Riley Jones struck out seven to earn the victory in the circle; Dallyse York went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs; Sienna Garcia went 3 for 4; Leah Hurd went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs; and Kaylin Steede hit a two-run home run.

Apple Valley 22, Serrano 2

At Apple Valley, the Sun Devils scored 10 runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Makaylee Cerf went 4 for 4 with three runs; Madison Buzzard went 4 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs; Khloe Beserra went 3 for 3 with five RBIs and two runs; and Liza Lozano went 1 for 1 with a home run, five RBIs and four runs.

Hesperia 12, Burroughs 4

At Ridgecrest, Annamarie Flores went 3 for 4 with five RBIs to lead the Scorpions past the Burros.

Jenevy Hidalgo went 2 for 4 with three RBIs; Aliyah Villalobos went 1 for 4 with three runs; and Julyssa Villalobos went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and struck out seven to earn the win.

University Prep 17, Excelsior 1

At Victorville, the Jaguars improved to 3-1 in Cross Valley League action.

Jocelyn Lopez went 2 for 2 with four RBIs; Sophia Perea went 1 for 1 with two walks and three RBIs; Brie Villanueva went 1 for 3 with two RBIs; and Paityn Zimmerman went 1 for 2 with one RBI, two runs and one stolen base.

Baseball scores from April 17

Sultana 11, Hesperia 7

At Hesperia, the Scorpions are tied with Burroughs for first place in the MRL standings after losing to the Sultans. 

Ethyn Doyle led Sultana with a strong all-around performance. Doyle went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and one stolen base, while striking out 11 over 6 ⅓ innings. 

Isac Gamez went 4 for 5 with two runs and one stolen base; Elijah Alvarez went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs; and Brady Van Hulzen went 3 for 5 with two runs.

For Hesperia, Jacob Castillo went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Oak Hills 7, Serrano 6

At Oak Hills, Seth Marcil delivered a walk-off single in the eighth inning to lift the Bulldogs. 

Marcil ended 3 for 4 with three RBIs and three stolen bases, driving in Ethan McClain for the winning run. Serrano had tied the game with two runs in the seventh.

For Serrano, Kelvin Lopez went 3 for 5 with one RBI, two runs and one stolen base.

Burroughs 2, Apple Valley 1

At Ridgecrest, the Burros scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to walk off Apple Valley and jumped into a tie for first place in the MRL standings.

Apple Valley took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly from Jaden Padilla, but Burroughs answered with two runs, capped by an RBI single from Steve Lormand.

Academy for Academic Excellence 22, Lucerne Valley 1

At Lucerne Valley, Aidan Carmona had a huge day for the Knights. 

Carmona drew five walks, scored four runs and stole four bases, and struck out 11 while allowing one run on one hit over five innings.

Bryson Lilly went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and one run, Nathan Rudd went 1 for 3 with three RBIs, two runs and three stolen bases, and Keegan Layton went 2 for 2 with three RBIs. 

Hesperia Christian 9, Big Bear 5

At Big Bear, the Patriots beat the Bears to force a tie for third place in the CVL standings.

Gabe Sanchez went 2 for 3 with three runs and one stolen base; Ezra Hawthorne went 2 for 5 with two RBIs; and Austin Koester struck out seven over seven innings to earn the win.
