Golden State Warriors reportedly worked out two veteran free agents ahead of training camp

It’s been a tough summer for the Golden State Warriors, as the front office has been locked in negotiations with Jonathan Kuminga. As such, the franchise remains the only one in the NBA not to add any new faces to the roster ahead of the new season. However, Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton and Gary Payton II are all expected to sign with the team once Kuminga’s situation has been resolved.

According to Danny Emerman of The San Francisco Standard, the Warriors recently held a workout for Dalano Banton and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl who are both free agents. The workouts were designed to see whether Banton and/or Robinson-Earl could earn a spot within the Warriors training camp, likely on an Exhibit 10 or Exhibit 9 contract.

“Free agents potentially vying for training camp invites, including Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Dalano Banton, have stopped by Chase Center for workouts recently, per sources,” Emerman wrote. “That’s typical for this time of year, but usually there would be more clarity on the types of opportunities that might be available.”

Banton spent last season with the Portland Trail Blazers, playing in 67 games with seven of them coming as a starter. Robinson-Earl was with the New Orleans Pelicans, suiting up for 66 regular-season outings, nine of them as the team’s starting power forward. Both free agents still have plenty of upside and could slot into Steve Kerr’s second unit if required.

However, it remains to be seen if either player will be given the green light to participate in the Warriors’ training camp and preseason. Unfortunately, Banton and Robinson-Earl may need to join the line and wait for Kuminga’s situation to reach a conclusion before learning of their potential future with the franchise.
