Makai Lemon is now officially a member of the Philadelphia Eagles after signing his rookie contract. The next order of business was to figure out his jersey number to start his NFL career. With the Eagles already having a No. 6 for their top wide receiver, Devonta Smith, Makai Lemon will have to look elsewhere.
In his search for his new number, a former Eagles legend was kind enough to pass down his number. Nick Foles is not the traditional franchise legend, as most of his career, he was a backup quarterback. However, he started off in Philadelphia, being drafted in 2012, and he gave them their first Super Bowl victory in dramatic fashion.
The Eagles’ 2018 season was a magical year, even after their MVP hopeful, highly drafted quarterback Carson Wentz, went down with a torn ACL right before the playoffs. Nick Foles filled in and played like an MVP himself, ultimately going on a Super Bowl run and winning Super Bowl MVP. He got the best of Tom Brady in 2018. That moment has forever cemented Foles with the best of them in Philadelphia.
Him passing his number down to Makai Lemon is no small thing; it is an Eagles legend passing his number down to the next Eagles legend.
Not many receivers have dominated with the #9, as it is mostly seen as a quarterback number, but former Trojan Makai Lemon is looking to change that. Makai Lemon will now start his career off with Eagles history on his back, as he looks to create his own.
