Four-time NFL Pro Bowler Derek Carr visits a UCLA football practice

Former NFL quarterback Derek Carr never attended UCLA but that didn’t stop Bob Chesney and the Bruins from welcoming the 4x Pro Bowler from attending a UCLA practice this past week.

Carr was born in Bakersfield, California and opted to stay local for his college career. Carr had an illustrious career with the Fresno State Bulldogs before getting drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the second round.

From there, Carr had a very successful NFL career. Carr played 11 seasons in the NFL, nine with the Raiders before heading to New Orleans for two seasons with the Saints. Carr’s NFL career might not be completely over either. In February of this year, Carr said that he’d be willing to unretire and return to the NFL but a return would require two prerequisites: for Carr to be healthy and to have a chance to win a Super Bowl.

Throughout his career, there was just one season where Carr seemed to be playing for a Super Bowl contending team, and that season was cut short. Carr broke his leg late in the 2016 season, with the Raiders going 12-4 on the season and Carr finishing fifth for the league’s MVP award.

While Carr’s potential NFL comeback awaits, he took time on Thursday to head out to Westwood and check on UCLA’s spring practice. Carr rocked some UCLA gear for the occasion, sporting a Bruins cap and long sleeve shirt for the occasion.

Carr never faced UCLA during his four year college career, but he did face some of the Bruins then-Pac-12 rivals. Oregon, USC and Cal all beat Carr and Fresno State, with Carr throwing for four touchdowns and two interceptions over the three games. Fresno State and Carr did have their way with one Pac-12 opponent, as Carr threw for five touchdowns in a 69-14 win over Colorado back in 2012.
