Four suspects, including a 14-year-old boy, have been arrested in connection with a shooting that left a victim wounded at a Barstow park on Friday, authorities said.
The gunfire was first reported just before 5 a.m. May 1 near Sturnacle Park, in the 1400 block of Sage Drive, according to the Barstow Police Department.
“Officers located a crime scene and were later notified that a gunshot victim had arrived at Barstow Community Hospital,” police said in a written statement.
The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, officials said. A description of the victim was not released.
Detectives soon identified four suspects in the attack and began working to track them down.
Two of them, identified as 22-year-old Paulino Aguirre of Barstow and 20-year-old Isaiah Anthony Diaz of Barstow, were taken into custody during a traffic stop the following morning in the 1500 block of Riverside Drive, according to police and San Bernardino County booking records. A 9mm handgun and as 12-gauge shotgun were recovered.
The third suspect, 18-year-old Robert Gonzalez-Diaz of Barstow, was arrested at his home in the 1500 block of Riverside Drive about 30 minutes later, officials said.
The fourth suspect, a 14-year-old Barstow boy whose identity was not released due to his age, turned himself in to police later in the day.
Diaz was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder negligently discharging a firearm, with bail set at $1.2 million, records show. Aguirre was booked on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. He was being held in lieu of $130,000 bail.
Gonzalez-Diaz was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in public and held on $130,000 bail, while the teenage suspect was accused of negligently discharging a firearm.
