The San Francisco 49ers watched several of their own free agents leave this offseason to sign with different teams to continue their careers elsewhere.
Among that group was offensive lineman Matt Hennessy, who spent the last two seasons with San Francisco and even played some meaningful snaps went Jake Brendel went down with an injury.
Hennessy signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys this offseason, but after having neck surgery this offseason, the team has placed him on injured reserve. With that move coming before Week 1, the offensive lineman’s season is over before it even starts.
Technically, the Cowboys and Hennessy could come to an injury settlement if the 28-year-old is healthy enough to play at some point during the season, but both sides might just want to give him a long leash to recover.
